Obituary for Willliam Emmett "Emmett" Dennehy

Dennehy, William Emmett Age 61, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away on October 22nd with his wife, Kellie, by his side. Emmett was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents William Emmett and Margaret Patricia (Jesse), sister Patti Korth, and father-in-law Allen Mork. Emmett was born in Chicago, the youngest of five children. He spent his early childhood in Edina, where he developed a love of hockey, often playing on the outside rinks at Creek Valley until dark. His passion for sports and competition would remain important to Emmett throughout his life. His father's job moved the family to Milwaukee where Emmett graduated from Nicolet High School. He attended UW La Crosse and established lifelong friendships in the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. Emmett met his partner in life of 35 years, Kellie, while managing a franchise restaurant. Shortly after they were married, an opportunity to own a franchise development brought them back to the Twin Cities. Emmett would eventually have seven restaurants in his development area. After 10 years of franchise ownership, Emmett shifted his focus to selling franchises. He successfully used his business expertise to guide new entrepreneurs as they pursued their dreams. The true joy of Emmett's life were his four children. Nothing was more important to him than his family. He was their mentor, cheerleader, confidant and role model. Over the years, Emmett coached them in baseball, softball, basketball and soccer. He taught them to be confident and dream big. He was happiest on the sidelines or in the front row as long as he could watch his children reach for their goals. Emmett's love of his family pushed him to battle pancreatic cancer for over 16 months. We will miss his twinkling Irish eyes, quick wit, easy smile and great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Kellie, children Erin (Shehan) De Alwis. William Emmett III, Daniel and Katlyn; brother Daniel, sisters Denise (Warren) Haeberle and Cathy (Scott) Fleming, brothers-in- law Kim Korth and Tim (Donna) Mork; mother-in-law Pat Mork who gave Emmett comfort throughout his journey; nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wed., Nov 2 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 13505 Excelsior Blvd., Minnetonka, MN 55345 (952)935-1432. Live Stream available at ihm-cc.org. Visitation 1 hour prior to Mass. Private family interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Shorewood. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to The Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Research at events.lustgarten.org. Special thanks to Dr. Daniel Pease and the staff of North Memorial Health Cancer Center Robbinsdale for their supportive and compassionate care of Emmett during his journey.
