Obituary for Thomas Joseph Allenburg

Allenburg, Thomas J.

It is with deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Tom, age 78, of Excelsior, on July 28th. He was born on August 5th to parents Frederick and Frances Allenburg, both deceased. He is also preceded in death by his sister Joan Kalgren, sister-in-law, Laurel Allenburg, and brothers-in-law, Dick Kalgren, Jerry Arne, and Tom Carr.

Tom is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Mary, beloved children, Thomas (Erica) and Jennifer (Paul), and treasured grandchildren, Bridget, James, Liam, Paul and Ava. He is also survived by his siblings John Allenburg, Jean Arne and Fran (Jim) Borchart and many other relatives and friends.

Tom was proud to have studied at St. John's University and Northwestern College of Chiropractic. He was a practicing chiropractor for more than 30 years and had a highly successful second career as a business leader and entrepreneur leading a managed care company. He ended his career as President of a business within UnitedHealth Group.

No matter his success in business, his true loves were his family and his friends. He spent his retirement at his grandchildren's various events and activities, traveling with his best friends of over 60 years, golfing whenever possible and enjoying the lake.

Those who knew Tom consider themselves better for it. He is known for his concern for others above himself, his integrity, humility, the excellence he expected of himself, the value he placed on relationships, his charm and sense of humor. Lucky are us who have known him and loved him.

In lieu of flowers consider making a donation to autismspeaks.org. Reception details to be announced at the service.
