Obituary for Ronald Marvin "Ron" Chase

On April 26, 2023, Ronald “Ron” Marvin Chase passed away at 11:15pm at Martin County South Hospital in Stuart, Florida at the age of 85.

Born December 16, 1937, in Cook, Minnesota, he was the eldest of three children born to Marvin and Jewel (FitzSimmons) Chase. After graduating in 1955 from Cook High School, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1958. In 1959 he married Geraldine (Gerry) Lager, and they moved to South Dakota for a time before eventually settling into their family home in Mound, Minnesota.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Ron built a life-long career in the lumber and construction industries. Most notably, he co-founded a successful business with his sons in 1989, Homes By Chase, where he worked until he retired in 2000.

Ron was known to be an enthusiast of golf, fishing, and hunting; he was also an avid bowler at Navarre Lanes from 1970-1990. His greatest love, however, was spending time with his family and friends sharing as many stories as possible.

He also enjoyed serving the community as a member of the Northwest Tonka Lions Club where he served as a gambling manager (1992-1995) and then as president (1995-1996). Ron was known for finding ways to help others in any way he could and by sharing whatever he had. One way his generosity lives on is through the Brian Chase Memorial Scholarship which continues to help a student each year at Mound Westonka High School.

Ron was preceded in death by his son Brian, former wife Geraldine, great-grandson Noah Rubey, and his brother Darrell.

Ron is survived by his children Joan (Wayne) Musel, Andy (Monica), Lee (Tracy), Jewel (Tim) Qualle, Amy (Phil) Crissman, 20 grandchildren, several great and great great-grandchildren, his sister Shelley (Jim) Chase-Olsen and their two daughters, plus close friends Roxann Riddle and John “Dunner” (Kathy) Nylund.

We will celebrate Ron’s life and legacy on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the Gillespie Center in Mound. Visitation begins at 9:00am with a prayer service at 11:00am followed by a graveside service at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery at 12:00pm. All are welcome to stay after the service for a luncheon at the Gillespie Center.
