Obituary for Robert James "Bob" Wood
Wood, Robert James, age 84, of Victoria, MN, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Robert, the son of Sidney Robert and Arabelle Katherine (Van Wave) Wood, was born on January 9, 1939, in Duluth, MN. He spent his early years in Duluth, and graduated from Denfield High School, where he met his future bride, Marlys Jean (Hoglund) Wood. Robert and Marlys were married on April 24, 1958, beginning 64 years of marriage together.
Robert and Marlys’ son, Kurt, was born in Duluth in 1958. Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly thereafter and was based in El Paso, TX. He and his young family lived in El Paso until his honorable discharge in 1962, at which point they moved back to Minnesota.
Possessing drive and an entrepreneurial spirit, Robert thrived in the world of business. He achieved career successes within the field of facility maintenance. He enjoyed travel, skiing with family and friends, rounds of golf, and relaxing afternoons on the beach, especially during winters spent at his and Marlys’ second home in Bradenton, FL. Sharing a good meal with loved ones was a favorite way to connect, even better if that meal ended with a slice of key lime pie.
Robert’s devotion to his family ran deep. He greatly valued his partnership in marriage with Marlys throughout the many years they shared on life’s journey. He took immense pride in being a father to his son Kurt, witnessing his accomplishments and relishing their times together. With the birth of his one grandchild, Rachael, he also became a doting grandfather, providing an abundance of love and support.
Central to Robert was his personal relationship with Jesus. That relationship and faith in the Lord was a guiding force throughout his life.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife Marlys and his parents. He is survived by his son Kurt Wood, granddaughter Rachael Wood (Chris Pangle), brother- and sister-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 10:30 AM Wednesday (4/5) at Huber Funeral Home, 16394 Glory Lane, Eden Prairie, with visitation starting at 9:30 AM. Interment, Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
