Obituary for Richard "Dick" Schaffer

Dick Schaffer went home to be with His Lord on November 14, 2022.

Dick was born on September 18, 1935 in Mandan, ND to Rose and Paul Schaffer. He graduated from Napoleon High School in 1954. He attended Bismarck Jr. College in 1955, then was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Korea for 2 years.

In 1957, he started his career with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. In 1958, he married Darlene Schneider and they raised four sons. Dick worked his way up through the Postal Service, eventually becoming Post Master in Perham, MN and then finishing his career as Post Master in Fergus Falls, MN. Darlene passed away in 1997.

Throughout his lifetime, Dick enjoyed many hobbies including camping, fishing, photography, travel and woodworking. He was an outstanding builder of fine furniture.

In 2001, Dick met Rhoda Anenson at a Minnesota potluck in Casa Grande, AZ where they have wintered for the past 21 years. Together, they loved traveling and all family events. Dick loved music and enjoyed listening to Rhoda play piano and sing.

Dick is survived by his wife Rhoda, sons Mark (Libby), Dean (Cherlyn), David (Brenda) and Darin (Leslie), six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, sisters Diane (Larry) DeRosier, Mary (Roger) Hansgard, Lynda Schaffer, Kathy (Dave) Zimmer, brothers Elmer (Terry) and Paul (Sook) and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Darlene and brothers Alex and Gerry.
