Obituary for Opal Benora Campbell (Haagenson)
Opal Benora Campbell, age 94, of Minnetonka, MN, daughter of Bennie and Alice Haagenson, was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on February 17, 2022. Having lost her beloved husband, Rev. David Campbell on Oct. 10, 2005 after 51 years of marriage, she now joins him in heaven to be with our Lord. Funeral service will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Eden Prairie, MN on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 11:00 AM, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Ox Creek Cemetery, Rolette, ND, at a later date. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, granny, great granny, and friend.
She was born in Rolette, ND on March 3, 1927. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in Ox Creek Lutheran Church, rural Rolette. She organized the first Sunday School and taught summer Bible School. She worked with her Dad at Rolette Creamery, and at Myhre’s Department Store for several years. She graduated from Rolette High School in 1945, and went on to further her education at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and Minot State Teacher’s College in Minot, N.D. She taught elementary school in Ox Creek School District, Thorne, Mylo, Rolla, and Rolette Public Schools, all in North Dakota.
She and the Rev. David Campbell were married on Dec. 6, 1954. They served parishes in Brinsmade, ND, Cornell, WI, Spring Valley, WI, and Stanton, ND, as well as Lutheran Social Services of Northwestern OH, and New Hope Center in Minneapolis, MN. During their years together in service to the Lord, she enjoyed helping with Sunday School, choirs, and the privilege of sharing the love of Jesus. In retirement, Opal and David enjoyed their winters in south Texas, and many wonderful times with her family during her last years. Through it all, she gave her humble thanks to the Lord.
She is survived by her dear children, Miriam (Mark Gilligan) Campbell (Farmington, MN), Mary Beth (Robert) Berg (Eden Prairie, MN), D. Eric (Deborah) Campbell (Eden Prairie, MN), Jon (Virginia) Campbell (Eagan, MN), Kent Campbell (Weslaco, TX); sister, Marlys Johnson (Devils Lake, ND); grandchildren, Erik (Yichong) Berg, Alex Berg, Jenni (Eric) Deluca, Paul (Tea) Berg, Britta Dumke, Linnea (Robert) Devine, Elsa Dumke, Marya (Don Plowman) Dumke, Kate (James) Marty, Kristen (Philip) Miller, Sarah Campbell, and Christopher Nord. great grandchildren, Elin and Millie Berg, Leif and Bennie Deluca, Ebba Dumke, Tripp, Oliver, and Holden Devine, Zoe and Logan Marty.
She was preceded in death by husband David; parents Bennie and Alice Haagenson; brother and sister-in-law Boyd and Elna Haagenson; sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Donald Tollefson, and brother-in-law Lowell Johnson.
