Obituary for Meric Louen Dougherty (Brown)

Meric Louen Dougherty (Brown) passed away on September 28, 2022, after 89 years of a life well lived. May her rest be as sweet as her heart was kind. Meric was the daughter of the late Martha and Clifford Brown, sister of the late Eileen Gibson(Thomas) and Norma Biggs( Norman), sister in law of the late Catharine Moore(Ed)and Barbara Dougherty( George). She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, John/Doc; son Kevin (Oh); daughter Pam (Gregory); son Brian (Nina); granddaughters Maureen and Somo; nieces and nephews, Geoffrey ( Elaine), Wayne (BJ), Leslie, Melissa(Gregg), George, Mary Kay, Patty , Beth, Kate (Greg); grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews, and numerous surrogate nieces and nephews whom Auntie Meric and Uncle Doc gathered over the years in their home communities of Chester, Hershey, and Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and Excelsior, Minnesota. Meric cared deeply for her family, which included neighbors, friends, as well as relatives. With her take-charge spirit, Meric applied her artistic creativity and planning skills to being an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Per her explicit direction, no formal memorial service is planned. Celebrate her life and honor her legacy by thinking of her when making a list on a yellow tablet, reading the newspaper or a book, sending a card, having a fabulous meal with family and friends, seeing a Broadway show, feeding the birds, planting a tree, or making sure that spider or bug in your house gets released outside—don’t squish it! She had many favorite organizations and causes. A few that will miss her support include The National Wildlife Federation, March of Dimes, Friends of the Anderson Horticultural Library and The Excelsior Historic Society.
