Obituary for Margaret Jane "Peggy" Greene (Sutton)

Our dearly loved Margaret (Peggy) Jane Greene, age 76, passed away June 7, 2023, at J.D. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park, MN after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. Preceded in death by her parents John and Jane Sutton; in-laws Roger and Geraldine Greene; and siblings Nancy Chatelaine; and John Sutton.
Peggy was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 20, 1947, the daughter of John and Jane Sutton and then moved to Brentwood, Missouri where she spent her childhood years and graduated from Brentwood High School. Peggy was the second of 7 siblings. Growing up Peggy enjoyed swimming, cheerleading, and spending time with friends. After high school graduation Peggy attended college and then moved to Iowa where she met Charles (Chuck) Greene, who quickly became her soulmate and partner in life.
Peggy and Chuck moved to Mound, MN, where they planted their roots and were married on December 30, 1977. On January 20, 1980, Peggy made sure she did not deliver any earlier so she could share her birthday with her son, they welcomed their beloved son Joseph (Joe) Greene, and their family was complete. Joe was Peggy’s pride and joy! Peggy made sure her son was raised with good manners and values, but also made plenty of time for fun, sports, family, and entertainment which often included sporting events like soccer, Twins games, and lots of family trips to Florida!
Over the years, Peggy enjoyed being involved in the Mound community and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church & School activities. Peggy spent most of her professional career working at the First National Bank of the Lakes in Navarre, MN retiring in the summer of 2012. Upon retirement Peggy and Chuck enjoyed traveling to places like Alaska, the Panama Canal, and Cuba before they quickly got settled into the snowbird schedule spending winters in Bonita Beach, FL and summers in Mound, MN & Ottertail Lake, MN. Whether in Florida or Minnesota, Peggy could always be found enjoying a chair on the patio with a good book, crossword puzzle, and Chuck by her side. Peggy loved going out to dinner with family and friends, checking out a good art fair or any good shopping, watching the MN Twins, and sitting around the table enjoying conversation & a good glass of wine, always making everyone feel welcomed!
Peggy’s greatest joy was her family, and she was thrilled to be “Grandma Peggy” to Riley (8) and Teagan (6). Peggy loved her grandkids so much and enjoyed any opportunity to spend time with them watching their sporting events, playing mini “put-put” in Florida, spending countless hours doing puzzles, playing games, and hanging out while mom & dad enjoyed a date night. Peggy’s family and friends all benefited from her caring heart & the endless love she showed all of us.
Survived by her loving, devoted husband of 46 years, Charles Greene; son Joseph (Leah) Greene; grandchildren, Riley and Teagan Greene; sister-in-law Patricia Greene; siblings Mary J Sutton; Gail (Chris) Kelsey; Linda (Bill) Watson; Rich (Mary D.) Sutton; Leon Chatelain; and many nieces and nephews who love to call her “Aunt Kitty”.
