Obituary for Macrina Ann Sudbeck

Sudbeck, Macrina Ann
Passed away peacefully, without pain but unexpectedly on March 4, 2022. Macrina was born on March 15, 1941, in Sioux City, Iowa and is preceded in death by her son Mark and her parents Benedict V. and Marguerite McGuirk, her sister Rosemary (Jim) Sheehan, and her brother Fr. John McGuirk. Macrina is survived by her beloved husband Robert F. of sixty years and her children, son Stephen (Trish) and daughter Aimée (Denise), as well as her sisters Sr. Margaret McGuirk, O.P. and Joanna (Larry) Lindberg, and brother Paul (Mary) McGuirk, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Macrina had a great passion for all things creative and her love of nature. Her energy focused on community theater, which began in high school along with her love of baton twirling, which she also taught in Sioux City and in St. Paul. Her love of education began at Blessed Sacrament School and continued to Heelan High School of Sioux City. She went on to further pursue her education at Clark College, Mount Marty College, Briar Cliff College, and concluded with her Bachelor of Arts from Metro State University (St. Paul, MN). She dedicated her life with pride to the care of others as a Certified Nursing Assistant and later as a Geriatric Services professional. Her devotion to volunteering included being a special education teacher and elementary education tutor at Immaculate Heart of Mary school, working with ICA, the Jenny Downey Project, and Stephen’s Ministry among many others which she found both rewarding and impactful in the lives of others. She retired in 2000 and with her husband, she enjoyed traveling including trips to Rome, Ireland, Germany, and visiting many religious shrines, cathedrals and churches including Fatima, Lourdes, Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, and our Lady of the Knock to name a few. She also enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family throughout the U.S. She loved to express her creativity through her writing, her passion for her cultural heritage, and her enjoyment in all types of music.
Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church of Minnetonka, MN on March 15th at 11am with visitation to be held prior to the service. As a tribute to Macrina’s ancestral heritage, we encourage you to wear a wee bit of green to honor her. Memorials can be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church/School, Benilde-St. Margaret’s School, or Saint Paul Seminary.
