Obituary for Kari Ann Hatch (von Walter)

Hatch, Kari Ann, age 47, of Minnetonka, passed away on September 20, 2022 surrounded by her family. Kari was born in St. Paul, MN on February 17, 1975. Survived by her beloved husband of 18 years, Mitch Ralph Hatch, children Lucy and Ralphie; sisters Amanda Stejskal and Amy von Walter; foster fails Blubby and Joopy Jerry; extended family Tim and Susie Hatch; in-laws Ralph and Beana Hatch; and parents John and Kathy von Walter. Preceded in death by her two black labs, Gleep Glop and Monkey.

By all accounts Kari was a force of nature… known for her sparkling blue eyes, quick wit, fun and generous spirit. She was known as “The Whisperer” and the adopted parent for the island of misfit toys. Whether puppy-mill dogs that no one wanted, or kids who desperately needed a trusted adult they could talk to, Kari played the role of rescuer and caregiver perfectly. A fitting role given her many years as a nurse in critical care, urology and then at the Melrose Institute at Methodist Hospital. She was a hockey mom, figure skater mom, American patriot and fierce supporter of Donald Trump. Kari’s passion for “finding the truth” was unprecedented, and she was always eager to share the knowledge she gained from her extensive online research, even when her family and friends gave her a hard time about it.

Lucy calls Kari the ultimate secret keeper. She served as the surrogate mother to all of Lucy’s friends, and anyone else who needed some love and attention. She always thought about others first and put them before herself in all situations. She was there for anyone and everyone no matter the circumstance, her lively personality was certain to make you smile.

Ralphie shared that Kari was the best mom EVER. He said they did everything together because she was a stay-at-home mom. Ralphie said she was the reason he got into hockey and she was always there to pump him up before games.

Mitch adored how involved Kari was in the kids’ lives, watching movies, playing games, golfing with Ralphie - basically anything that would have the family together.

Caring for others was always a top priority for Kari, even in the end as she became an organ donor – an incredible gift and testament to her strength and perseverance.
