Jay Doran Markstrom of Bloomington, MN passed away peacefully on January 3, 2023. He was born on February 19, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN to Roy and Viola Markstrom. He graduated from Bloomington High School and attended Mankato State prior to being drafted into the Army in 1964 where he was stationed with the military police in Germany. Upon returning from the service, Jay enjoyed many years of entrepreneurship, owning several businesses in the industrial manufacturing sector. He loved the outdoors, especially at his home on Lake Vermilion, where he could be found snowmobiling, boating, out for a run or long walk, or simply enjoying beautiful sunsets with family and friends.
Preceded in death by parents Roy and Viola Markstrom, and son Jochen Markstrom. Survived by son Rolf (Andrea) Markstrom, daughter Karen Skauge; sister Jean (Denny) Whalton; former wife and dear friend Ingrid Markstrom; grandchildren Collin (Katie) Markstrom, Cassandra (Zack) Guthman, Sophia, Jack and Luke Markstrom; great grandchildren Ayden, Wyatt, Declan and Gavin; niece and nephew Heather Starks and Patrick Whalton.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 7th at 12:00 pm, service at 2:00 pm, interment to follow at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel - 3600 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55408. The celebration of Jay will continue immediately after the memorial service at Bunnys, 5916 Excelsior Blvd, St. Louis Park. All family and friends are welcome to join for an opportunity to share memories and refreshments.
