Obituary for George Martin Moran

George M. Moran, 86, of Lester Prairie, MN died Saturday, April 3, 2021 in hospice care at the Gardens of Winsted. He was born January 16, 1935 in Minneapolis, MN to George W. and Mabel R. (Tobias) Moran. He grew up in Eden Prairie, MN, graduating with the Eden Prairie High School Class of 1953 where he played basketball and was Homecoming King.

In the 1950’s, George began his life long career in the trucking industry working alongside his dad hauling milk from Eden Prairie, MN to Northland Milk & Ice Cream in Minneapolis, MN. After high school he worked for J. A. Danens & Son driving dump trucks. In the 1960’s, he started his own trucking company hauling gravel for Bryan Rock; later, hauling bulk sugar for North Central Transport of MN. George willingly shared his knowledge of trucking with others and added a touch of class to the trucking industry. His passion was Peterbilt trucks, especially his 1968 Peterbilt conventional. In 2010, he received the Golden Achievement Award presented by the American Truck Historical Society for over 50 years of dedicated service to the trucking industry.

George is survived by his wife Kay; daughters Dianne (Scott) Anderson, Victoria; Angela Moran (Sergio Sajion), Zimmerman; stepdaughter Stephanie Chappell, Glencoe; grandchildren Cory (Lauren) Jopp, Forest Lake; Megan Anderson, Minneapolis; brother Wally (Dixie) Moran, Summerville, SC; a niece, nephews and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Connie (Dave) Anderson and son Michael G. Moran.

A celebration of George’s life will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2021 beginning at 11:00 AM with visitation 1 hour before at the Huber Funeral Homes, 16394 Glory Lane, Eden Prairie, MN. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to The Minnesota Metro Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society.
