Obituary for Douglas Earl "Doug" Klint

Klint, Douglas Earl of Tonka Bay, MN and Scottsdale, AZ passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital on December 8, 2022 at the age of 72 surrounded by his loving family into the arms of his Savior and Lord Jesus. He bravely battled a new diagnosis of interstitial lung disease before Jesus called him home. Because of Doug's deep belief and faith in Jesus, we take great comfort in the assurance that he is now in heaven with our Lord and reunited with his father, Earl Klint; brother, Gregory Klint; father and mother-in-law, William and Arlene McIntyre; and niece, Emilee Klint. He is deeply missed by the love of his life of 40 years, Kimberly, and his children Alex (Laura) Klint, Bryan (Brooke) Klint, and Sarah (Lars) Held; Grandchildren Savannah, Marlow, Bode, Dahlia, Lyla, and Mila; Mother, Eleanor; Sisters, Karol (John) Greupner, Barb (Bob) Partanen; sister-in-law, Tami Klint; brother-in-law, Kyle (Debbie) McIntyre; and many nieces and nephews. Doug was born on July 17, 1950 in Grand Rapids, MN and was raised in Coleraine by his loving parents alongside his 3 siblings. Their family grew and flourished on a foundation of faith, love, respect, hard work, and a deep devotion to each other. These attributes instilled by his parents helped shape Doug into the incredible Husband, Father, and leader that he became later in life. Doug graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College and William Mitchell College of Law to pursue a successful career beginning in private law before finding a passion for corporate law. He joined Zycad Corporation in St. Paul, MN and soon after moved to Silicon Valley, CA to expand Zycad and eventually join Aspec Technology. At both companies he lead in various executive positions including Vice President, President, and General Counsel. In 2002, Doug was asked to join TASER/Axon in Scottsdale, AZ as Vice President and General Counsel as well as President for 5 years where he remained for over 16 years until his retirement in 2018. He also served as the head of the medical advisory board during his time at Axon. He was passionate about Axon's mission to use their products to help protect and save lives. Doug was an incredible leader with an unstoppable drive and helped lead Axon through some very challenging periods of adversity. He was the definition of grace under fire and his immense wisdom, steady and calm leadership, and determination to be a fierce advocate for integrity allowed him to be the driving force for the company to success in many legal battles. He was also compassionate and humble in his leadership and fostered many deep relationships with others in all areas within the company. Doug met the love of his life, Kimberly, on a motorcycle ride around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis in 1981 and their instant love and connection founded on their faith in Jesus led to marriage on October 8, 1982 and a beautiful life full of adventure together with their 3 children. They found roots in Danville, CA, Orono, MN, and Scottsdale, AZ through numerous moves over the years and each location allowed for new opportunities and lifelong friendships. Everyday with Doug was lived to the fullest and never short of adventure. His ultimate enjoyment was any time spent with family and friends and he extended his generosity with his motto "the more the merrier". He shared his love for the lake, boating, skiing, travel, and motorcycles with his family and always made Kim, his kids, and grandchildren his number one priority. To know Doug was to know love, acceptance, and immense generosity and he never held back his feelings for those he loved, especially in the way he expressed his always deepening love for his wife and best friend, Kim. He was also so proud to be a Papa to his 6 beautiful grandchildren and his legacy will live on in how they are raised to live life like Papa, full of faith, love, passion, determination, integrity, and adventure. A Celebration of Doug's life will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 2pm with a visitation beginning at 1pm at Westgate Church, 705 County Rd 101 N, Plymouth, MN 55447.
