Obituary for Dorothea Mae Sommers (Christians)
Dorothea M. Sommers, 92, of Edina, Minnesota, died Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Heritage of Edina care facility.
Dorothea Mae Christians was born on May 22, 1929 in West Side Township, Nobles County, Minnesota to Carl and Minnie (Michelsen) Christians. She was baptized and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Luverne, Minnesota. She attended school in Adrian, Minnesota. After graduation she continued her education at Mankato State Teachers College.
On February 19, 1951 Dorothy and Mel Sommers were united in marriage at St. John Lutheran Church, Luverne, Minnesota, by Rev. Martin Hauser. The couple initially made their home in Waseca, Minnesota, but also lived in Owatonna, Minneapolis, St. Cloud, Bloomington and Eden Prairie, Minnesota, as well as in Scottsdale, Arizona for several years.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by her daughter Sandra Baker and her husband James of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; her son Steven Sommers and his wife Kathy of Florence, Arizona; sisters-in-law Delores Sommers of Waseca, Minnesota and Rebecca Christians of Hutchinson, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Laura Baker, Lisa Burmeister, Lindsay Murphy, Christopher Sommers and Colin Sommers; one great-grandchild, Madison Murphy; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mel, and brothers Donald and Allen.
Memorial service 11 AM Thursday (9/9) at Victory Lutheran Church, 16200 Berger Drive, Eden Prairie, with visitation starting at 10 AM. Interment Woodville Cemetery, Waseca.
