Obituary for Alvin William Donahoo

Alvin William Donahoo, age 102, of Spring Park, died on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in St Louis Park, MN. Alvin was born on Nov. 3rd, 1918 in Moravia, IA to Albert & Daisy (Dowd) Donahoo. He was one of three children. Alvin enlisted in the US Navy at the beginning of WWII at Great Lakes Navel Training Station in Chicago Illinois. He meets Dorothy Garneau at a USO dance while on shore leave, who later became his wife of 54 years.
During the Normandy Invasion of 1944 Alvin oversaw a flotilla of 13 LCT landing craft which brought troops and supplies onto Utah Beach. Alvin remained on Utah Beach for six months helping support the troops with food, fuel, ammunition, etc. as the army moved towards the German boarders. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Garneau) in 1997; parents, Albert & Daisy (Dowd) Donahoo; siblings, Wanda Wise & Delbert Donahoo; special friends, Isabel Giddings & Martha Babcock. Survived by daughter, Dianne (Gary) Keller; Dianne’s children, Andrew Youngdahl (Dianne Pollman), Brian (Lori) Youngdahl, Wayne (Nicole) Youngdahl, Angelique (James) Sheeley; son, David Donahoo (Mary Ella Pratte) and their children, Merie (Jeffrey) Silkey, Jessica Kuhn & Allison (Michael) DeGrood; great grandchildren, Shane & Jossy Youngdahl, Bradyn, Trent, and Cooper Youngdahl, Monica and Benjamin Humphrey and Kenna Wang-honorary; step great grandchildren, Ella, Camille and Ava Silkey, Sophie Kuhn, Adele and Lydia DeGrood; special friend, Iris Waade.
