Bernard C. Benz, Sr., age 85 of Excelsior, passed away August 25, 2018. He was preceded in death by his son, Bernard C. Benz, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley; daughters, Debra (Bruce) Thyren, and Sheri (Terry) Kelly; daughter-in-law, Sandy Benz; grandchildren, Elliot Thyren, Megan Kelly and Meredith Kelly; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Berney was born in Hendricks, MN and moved to Excelsior in 1961. After a long career in Customer Service Management Berney retired to devote his time to family, especially his grandchildren. “The Old Man” took great pride in his lawn, and could often be seen on a mower or snowplow tending to his manicured acre. When something was broken he knew how to fix it and he loved nothing more than helping someone solve a problem. He was a friend to everyone he met. Private family services only.
