Obituary for Russell William "Russ" Fischer

Russell William "Russ" Fischer
Russell William Fischer, age 73, of Minnetrista passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Monday, June 25th, 2018. He succumbed to complications from pneumonia after having a stroke in 2015. He was a fierce family man, jack of all trades, and remained full of personality throughout his final days.

Russ was born on October 13th, 1944 and grew up in South Minneapolis, attending Roosevelt High School. He was a proud Army Veteran, skilled mechanic, sharp salesman, astute business owner, bold investor, and a brilliant writer and teacher. He never missed an opportunity to help others research, calculate, strategize or theorize on a variety of topics ranging from cooking to nuclear power. Most recently, he had numerous articles published on an online investment community called SeekingAlpha.com sharing his experience and wisdom to help others gain knowledge and make informed decisions on investment opportunities.

In addition to his business success, Russ was deeply connected with his family. He married the love of his life, Cheryl, on April 16th 1974 and they started their family in Minnetrista, MN. Whether it was attending a dance recital, jet ski race, floating in the pool, or spending time with his grandkids, family was his top priority. Russ always enjoyed making people laugh, usually by making balloon animals, throwing out one-liners, or telling lively stories. An optimist in every way, he loved to smile, always saw the positive side of a situation and had the biggest laugh in the room.

Russ is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Margaret; sister, Joyce and brother, Stanley, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children Julia (Jason) Roaldson, Jonathan, and Christopher; grandchildren, Alex and Charlie Roaldson; sister, Ruth Sandstrom; numerous nieces and nephews, especially Paul Sandstrom with whom he shared a special bond as well as many beloved relatives, friends, mentors and mentees.

We know Russ is somewhere fixing something, talking stocks, or raising hell with his brother. We will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 13th beginning at 11:00am with a lunch reception to follow at the Lafayette Club, 2800 Northview Rd, Minnetonka Beach, MN 55361. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. John’s Foundation of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mound, MN (952-472-1416) or Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners (iocp.org), both supporting people in Russ’ community working to get on their feet.
