Roy N Aupperle, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 19, 2018. Roy was born May 19, 1923 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, the only child of William and Jeanette (Dettman) Aupperle. He was raised in South Minneapolis and attended South High graduating in 1941. Roy proudly served in World War II in the Army 652nd Engineer Topographic Battalion in the Eastern European theatre including fighting in the ‘Battle of the Bulge.’ Roy’s career started with General Mills in the Mechanical Division as a Packaging Engineer. He used his attention to detail as a mechanical designer at McQuay Refrigeration where he retired in 1986 after working 25 years for them. Roy was not only a dedicated employee but took great pride in his work. On June 18, 1950, Roy married Delores Thovson. Together they had two children, Susan and David. Roy and Delores lived in North Minneapolis for 38 years raising their family and enjoying the community there. After retirement, they traveled around the United States and spent a lot of valuable time enjoying their grandchildren and building a strong bond that has remained steadfast throughout the years. Roy will be remembered for enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Spending winters in Florida, golfing with family and friends, model building and reading the newspaper — cover to cover. He was an avid sports fan following U of M Gopher sports, Twins baseball and St. John’s “Johnnies” football. Devoted to his family, he always made sure to check in on everybody with his weekly phone calls. He loved his family more than anything and made sure everybody knew that. His gentle sense of humor could make anybody smile and his smile will be dearly missed. Proud, yet humble, Roy was a true warrior and a fighter who fought to the very end to recover. Left to honor and remember his devotion are Roy’s family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Delores; daughter, Susan
(Chuck) Percival; son, David; two grandchildren, Drew (Anne) Percival and Lindsay Percival.
Private interment at Ft. Snelling. Family prefers memorials to Mount Calvary Church in Excelsior, MN. Roy always ended his phone calls or interactions with a, “take care.” Now it is our turn to say, “Dearest Roy, take care.”
