Obituary for Barbara Marie Olsson (O'Connell)

Olsson, Barbara Marie (nee O'Connell) Age 84, of Minnetonka, passed away and went to Heaven peacefully on April 20, 2018 surrounded by family holding her hand and serenading her with music. Preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; parents, Maurice and Myrtle O'Connell; siblings, Marilyn Thon, Joan Kizer, Elizabeth Gierman, and Dennis O'Connell. Survived by children, Lynn, Gene and Karen (Mark Foster); grandchildren, Kacie and Kalley Foster; brother, John (Lee) O'Connell; sister-in-law Mary O'Connell-Theisen; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Barbara was born in Minneapolis and spent the majority of her life as a resident of Minnetonka. She attended Groveland Elementary School in Minnetonka and graduated from Deephaven High School in 1951. She married her true love, Eugene, and they went on to have three children. Barbara was an extremely hard worker and held many jobs in her life, but her true passion was that of a caregiver. After losing her father to cancer, Barbara decided to pursue a degree in nursing. She became a registered nurse and worked as an oncology nurse at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN for many years. She truly was an angel on earth. Barbara loved flowers, gardening, spring, summer, warm places and sunshine. She would feed the birds like Snow White (they would come to her when she called them). She loved meeting new people, but most of all she loved being with her family. She loved her children so much and cherished her granddaughters, and they cherished her. She never missed any events in their lives. She was very generous and selfless to all who knew her. Beautiful inside and out, like a Disney Princess with golden hair as fine as silk, her granddaughters called her "Grandma With the Yellow Hair" and that is how she will always be remembered. Barbara's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Auburn Manor in Chaska and Allina Hospice for the loving care they graced her with. She loved all of you. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at Huber Funeral Home in Eden Prairie on Saturday, May 5th with visitation at 10am followed by a memorial service at 11am. Burial to follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society. Huber Funeral & Cremation Service Eden Prairie (952) 949-4970 huberfunerals.com
