Obituary for Joan Alice Gilgenbach (Kruse)

Joan Alice Gilgenbach (Kruse)
Joan Alice (Kruse) Gilgenbach, age 79, of New Hope, MN, previously of Homosassa, FL, Chanhassen, MN and Long Lake, MN, was born May 31, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI and died on March 8, 2018.
She was preceded in death by husband, Raymond Gilgenbach, Jr., son, Michael Gilgenbach, and granddaughter, Madeline Gilgenbach. She is survived by sons, David Gilgenbach and James Gilgenbach; daughters, Mary Jo (Frank) Sherwood, and Diane (Brian) Cole; grandchildren, Ryan Sherwood, Rachel (Joey) Jasion, Nathan Sherwood, Alyssa (Jake) Smith, Kelly (Katie) Gilgenbach, Chelsea (Rob) Beckham, Benjamin Cole and Amy Cole; and great-grandchildren Evan Sherwood, Preston Sherwood, Alexander Jasion, Lily Henrickson, and Parker Rose Gilgenbach.
Joan held many jobs including switchboard operator at Allis-Chalmers, medical office receptionist, waitress at Eddy’s Diner of Long Lake, florist assistant, daycare provider at Long Lake’s Totspot and deli worker at Cub Foods in Chanhassen. Her most important job, though, was raising her five children and running her household. She cared about her children and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren even more.
As a lover of fashion, Joan was always impressing people with her keen sense of style and color. It was an everyday affair to see Joan decked out in the latest styles with her signature matching jewelry, shoes, and purse. A fellow choir member at St. George Church in Long Lake once said her favorite part of arriving at church was seeing what Joanie was wearing.

In May of 2009, Joan and her husband Ray moved to sunny Florida. They enjoyed several years of retirement and Joan returned to Minnesota in 2015 after her husband’s passing. She resided at St. Therese of New Hope through her final days.

Joan’s celebration of life will be at the Huber Funeral Home Chapel, 16394 Glory Lane, Eden Prairie, MN. Saturday March 24, 2018. Visitation at 10 am, Memorial Service at 11 am with a luncheon immediately following. Private burial at St. Hubert Catholic Cemetery will follow the luncheon.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Therese of New Hope for the care they provided over the past few years.
