Obituary for Barbara Jane "Barb" Finstad (Fjelstul)
Barbara Jane Finstad (Fjelstul), age 71, passed away peacefully at home on January 3, 2018. She was the wife of Allen Finstad with whom she shared 38 years of marriage.
Born in Waukon, Iowa July 7th, she was the daughter of Maynard and Gladys (Orke) Fjelstul. She grew up in Calmar, Iowa, but moved to Oneida, New York in 1963 where she graduated from high school and the Utica School of Commerce. Following graduation, she moved to Minneapolis where she worked at Ross ASsociates and later for Jim Roeder as an independent accountant.
Barb was happiest in the company of family and friends and in the great outdoors; entertaining with Al, traveling, cross country skiing, fishing, taking walks with her yellow labs, and hiking with Jeff and family in Washington state.
Barb is surived by her husband Allen Finstad; brother, Roger (Rita) Fjestul, sister, Nancy French, brother, Jeff (Merilee) Fjelstul, numerous nieces and nephews and many cherished friends, and her dog, Birdie. She was predeceased by her parents, Maynard and Gladys (Orke) Fjelstul.
A Celebration of life was held January 8 at Mount Olivet Church, 7150 Rolling Acres Rd, Excelsior, MN, at 11:00AM with a visitation one-hour prior. Burial and memorial service will take place in Calmar, Iowa on January 13 at Calmar Lutheran, 200 E North St., beginning at 11:00AM with a visitation one-hour prior. Interment to follow.
Memorial donations in honor of Barb can be made to Mount Olivet Church or Mayo Clinic Cancer Research.
