Obituary for Elizabeth Hughes "Betty" Batzli (Hughes)

Batzli, Elizabeth Hughes "Betty" Age 94 of Tonka Bay, Minnesota. Born in Minneapolis in 1922 to Edward S. & Mabel E. Hughes. Preceded in death by parents, sister Laura B. Hughes, brother William E. Hughes, loving husband Robert Oscar Batzli, and beloved aunt Margaret Hanke. Survived by sons James H. (DeeAnn) and Brian (Jeanne), daughters Laura and Lynne, grandchildren Kiersten, Mara and Bennett Batzli, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Betty grew up in Minneapolis near Lake Calhoun and graduated from West High School in 1940. In 1945 she graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Business. Her first job after college was at the California University Hospital in San Francisco. After three years, she returned to Minneapolis where she and Bob Batzli were engaged and married. After living in St. Louis, MO, for a brief period for one of Bob's electrical construction projects, they settled in Tonka Bay. In addition to working for a number of years as the payroll clerk for the family business, Batzli Electric Co., Betty was an energetic volunteer for a number of organizations throughout her life, including the Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA, Meals on Wheels, and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She also held leadership positions with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Women's Auxiliary and the Minnesota Weaver's Guild. Special thanks and gratitude to family friend and caregiver Dianne Langevin. Memorial service Wednesday, May 24 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 301 County Road 19, Excelsior with visitation one hour prior to service at church. Interment Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to Mt.
