Obituary for Dorothy Upgren

Dorothy Upgren, Age 87, of Tonka Bay, passed away January 6, 2012. Dorothy was born and raised in Waconia, MN. Following high school, Dorothy trained to be a Morse code radio operator. During WWII and prior to marriage, she was employed in this field by Mid Continental Airlines. In 1948 she married the love of her life, Richard, and moved into the house he built for her in Tonka Bay, where they lived together for 63 years. During this time she made this special house a home for her family. Through the years she excelled at many activities that included bowling, embroidery and golf. Dorothy loved the simple things in life as long as they included her family. Whether it was going up north to the cabin, to the North Shore, or sitting at home on the deck - family was always there with her. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother with a great sense of humor and will be missed by so many. She taught us all that simple things in life were the most important. She will be forever loved and treasured. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Richard; and will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Mary (Allan); sons, Stephen (Kathleen), and David (Elizabeth); 9 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren. A special thanks to Golden Living of Excelsior. Memorial Service 11:00 AM Monday, January 16, with visitation one hour prior to service: Huber Funeral Chapel, 520 Second Street, Excelsior (952-474-9595).
